Sectors & Associations
The Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC) is structured into four main Sectors, each reflecting the unique geographical, cultural, and demographic characteristics of the regions they encompass. These Sectors are led by Sector Heads who oversee the spiritual and administrative activities within their jurisdictions. The Sectors are also defined by the number of congregations and baptised members they contain, contributing to the overall fabric of the GBC.
Sector Head: Rev. Tony Badu
Geographical Area: Encompassing the Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo, parts of Western North and Eastern region. This sector is marked by cultural landmarks and significant urban centres like Kumasi, with lush forests and fertile lands.
Population: Approximately 7 million people.
Baptist Associations: Kumasi North, Kumasi South-East, Kumasi South-West, Kumasi West, Golden Gate, Adansi, Adom, Sunyani, and Bethel.
Congregations: 508, representing 38% of GBC’s total churches.
Baptised Members: 43,243 representing 43% of GBC’s total baptised membership.
Focus: The Sector emphasises evangelism, church planting, leadership training, and socio-economic development initiatives.
Sector Head: Rev. Emmanuel Ofori – Teiko
Geographical Area: Covering the Central and Western Regions, this sector is characterised by its coastline, historical forts, and vibrant fishing communities.
Population: Approximately 5.8 million people.
Baptist Associations: Winneba, Swedru, Cape-Coast, Hope, Sekondi-Takoradi, and Nzema.
Congregations: 162, representing 12% of GBC’s total churches.
Baptised Members: 8,507, representing 9% of GBC’s total baptised membership.
Focus: Engages in evangelism, church planting, and community development programs.
Sector Head: Rev. Yaw Oppong-Ankomah
Geographical Area: South East Ghana Sector includes Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, parts of Eastern and Central Region, featuring a mix of urban centres like Accra and diverse rural landscapes from coastal plains to the Akwapim-Togo ranges.
Population: Approximately 11.8 million people.
Baptist Associations: Accra North, Accra South, Tema Central, Dangme-East, Dangme-West, Eastern, North Volta, and South Volta.
Congregations: 313, representing 23% of GBC’s total churches.
Baptized Members: 35,345, representing 35% of GBC’s total baptised membership.
Focus: Urban ministry, peri-urban rural ministry, evangelism, church planting, educational programs, and social services are key areas of work in this sector.
Sector Head: Rev. Barnabas Isaiah Napari
Geographical Area: Includes the Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, and Upper West Regions, distinguished by savannah landscapes, traditional architecture, and cultural diversity.
Population: Approximately 4.6 million people.
Baptist Associations: Tamale, Tahima, Nalerigu, Bolga, Wa, Liberty, and Nakpanduri.
Congregations: 363, representing 27% of GBC’s total churches.
Baptised Members: 12,893 representing 13% of GBC’s total baptised membership.
Focus: Ministries in this sector address challenges such as poverty alleviation, healthcare, and educational projects through evangelism and church planting activities.
